Sputnik Planitia on a Pluto

Do you know about word “Sputnik”? It is also plain on another planet. It is covered by ice planitia on the Pluto. This plain was discovered in 2015. And named after first artificial satellite for Earth. Sputnik-1, launched by Soviet Union in 1957. This territory is rather plain, this means it has few craters.

 And it is consist of nitrogen and methane. And this components are frozen. It is very cold on Pluto. And plain is rather big.  Interesting point is that, it has conditionally cellular structure. And if look at this plain from some height it is made of many rectangles. This unusual structure formed by sublimation of ice.

 This process also exists on another planets. For example, on Mars. There is some understanding of idea, that under the surface of Pluto – under the ice, there is whole ocean. Some information from New Horizons, gives ideas, that ocean`s depth is full 100 kilometers. And saying more, maybe it has some soil water. This is some theories and observations.
